"18 Months Old!"

Abigail had her 18 month check-up on Monday.  She weighs 20 lbs 3 oz. and is 29 inches long!  Abigail is still in the lower 5th percentile on the charts, but at least she's on the charts and growing!  Abigail continues to amaze us everyday with new things that she learns.  For example, if you ask her "what her name is," she says "Abby!"  She's working on saying Abigail, but that's quite a mouth full for such a little girl.  Abigail is such a blessing in our lives!  I just love her so much and thank God everyday for such a precious gift!  I haven't taken any pictures since Christmas, so I'll post some later.  On another note:  I'm happy to say that Abigail is feeling 100% better and no longer needs the breathing treatments!  Yeah!!

Happy New Year to all!!

"Merry Christmas"

We started off our Christmas celebrations by attending our church's (Woodlands Point Community Church) Christmas Eve service Sunday night! It was a beautiful candle light service and the message focused on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our SAVIOR!  Then, tuesday night we attended one of Fellowship of the Woodlands Christmas Eve services with my family-it's a family tradition.  After the service, we all went back to Mimi & Honey's for dinner.
In the middle of the night Christmas Eve, Abigail woke up twice wheezing!  So, I went ahead and gave her a breathing treatment and put her back to bed.  On Christmas Eve morning, Abigail vomitted in her crib when she woke up from her morning nap!  After a quick bath, we were off to James's cousins house to celebrate with his family.  Abigail had moments throughout the day where she was happy and would play, but she didn't feel good at all!  Then, it was to Grandmother's house we go to celebrate with the Pearson side of my family!  Abigail ended up vomitting again.  So, as we headed home James & went back & forth trying to decide what to do.  We decided to take Abigail to the emergency room, but then I remembered I had groceries in the car.  So, we headed home and put Abigail to bed.  We decided if she went to sleep ok then that would be better than spending all night in the emergency room.  However, she woke up 30 minutes later crying because she couldn't breathe!
I called the pediatrician after hours line and waited over an hour for the nurse on-call to call me back!  After talking with the nurse and answering all of her questions, she told me if I could hear Abigail wheezing from across the room then we should take her to the emergency room to have her checked out!  Symptoms:  low grade temp., vomitting periodically, & wheezing, no drainage from the nose at all!  So, we were off to the ER at 10:30 pm Christmas Eve!  We anticipated being stuck there all night, but I was quite impressed we were in & out in 2 hours!  Abigail's chest x-ray showed she had bronchitis & congestion in the lungs, but no fluid on the lungs!  We were given a prescription for steriods and zpak for infants and told to continue with the breathing treatments every 4 hours!  James & I were both relieved after taking Abigail to the ER!
Christms Day we spent the wee hours of the morning finishing up in the emergency room.  Then, we dropped off the prescriptions at Wallgreen's but were told it would take 30 minutes to fill even though there was hardly anyone in the store!  Crazy, huh?  After giving Abigail her first dose of her antibiotics and steriods, we gave her a breathing treatment and put her to bed at about 2:30 am!  We all slept in after the rought night we all had.  Then, it was time to get up & moving because we had another busy day ahead of us.  Abigail slept until 9:30 am, which she has NEVER slept that late!  Grandma & Grandpa came over for brunch and to open presents!  Even though Abigail was sick, she had fun playing with all of her new toys!  Next, we were off to Mimi & Honey's to have lunch with my family and to open presents!  Abigail was able to get in some naps during the day, which helped her feel better!  Daddy even managed to get in a nap while I was helping Mimi clean the kithchen!
We all had a wonderful Christmas despite having a sick baby girl!  At the end of the day, we were all ready for bed!  My wonderful husband bought me tickets to go to a Proverbs 31 Ministry event at a church in Houston where the Mom from John & Kate plus 8 will be speaking!  Not only that but, James bought me 5 other tickets so I could bring some friends!  Yeah, girls night out!  I have such an awesome hubby!
Abigail is feeling much better since she's been on antibiotics!  She sounds much better too!  We have just taken it easy yesterday & today so she could rest.

Abigail is not so sure about her new slide Santa brought her!

Now, she's warming up!

Why does every child have to try to climb up the slide?

Abigail loves her new kitchen from Grandma & Grandpa!

Abigail was scared of the rocking horse that Grandpa bought for her!  I think she'll learn to like the rocking horse with time!

"Play Time"

Abigail loves to play outside!  There's not much for her to do in our backyard except for swing!  So, Santa is bringing her a slide for Christmas!
An update on Abigail:  We have an appointment with the cardiologist January 6th to discuss her surgery and hopefully get it scheduled.  Abigail will have the echocardiogram done in the doctor's office the same day before we meet with the doctor.  Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement and prayers!  Today we were reminded how blessed we are that Abigail is alive and thriving!  James & I had a chance to visit with my OBGYN and he told us that it had been a long time since he had delivered a baby so close to death.  My doctor also said that Abigail would not have lived if we had gotten in the ambulance to head downtown.  God's timing was perfect-because while I was waiting for the ambulance, Abigail's heart rate dropped!  So, Abigail was delievered via emergency c-section just minutes later!  I know that God is in control of every aspect of Abigail's life!  God is good!  Thank you Lord for the gift of my precious baby girl!  I'm so blessed to be a mom!

"Cardiologist Appointment"

Well, this morning was Abigail's appointment with the cardiologist.  The only test the doctor had ordered was an EKG.  Abigail has become terrified of doctor's offices due to one too many trips to the pediatrician!  When we put her on the table, she immediately burst into tears!  She has associated the tables/beds at the doctor's office with getting shots!  So, Daddy held Abigail in his lap and held her arms, while I held her legs and sang "The Wheels on The Bus!" Thankfully this technique did the trick!  However, Abigail was happy when the EKG was over and said, "all done!"

When the nurse put Abigail on the scale to get her weight, she was not happy!  Then, the nurse had to be quick to get her length because she would not be still!  And Abigail would not have anything to do with getting her blood pressure taken!  Abigail kept trying to take the blood pressure cuff off saying "all done."  Abigail was crying so hard, the nurse finally gave up on getting a blood pressure reading!  Praise God!

James & I had our minds set on good news.  However, after the cardiologist read Abigail's EKG report and listened to her heart,  "he informed us that he heard what he needed to hear and Abigail would need to have the PDA closed the first part of the year!"  James & I were both in shock even though we have known all along that if the PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) did not close on its own by the age of 1, then Abigail would need surgery.  We wanted so much to believe that the PDA had closed on its own because Abigail has done so well!  At first, I was kicking myself for not having the PDA closed when Abigail was smaller and didn't have the fear that she has now.  After shedding some tears, I remembered to count my blessings.
  1. I am thankful that Abigail did not have to have this PDA fixed when she was born.  I'm not sure I could have taken her being put under weighing less than 2 lbs.  The Lord kept his promise in not giving me more than I could bare!
  2.  I am thankful that Abigail did not have to have the PDA fixed when she was about 5 lbs.  Abigail's oxygen sats were not 100%.  We were also making frequent trips to the eye doctor, which was traumatic enough!
  3.   I am thankful that Abigail needed to have tubes put in her ears because that helped prepare us for any future surgeries.
  4. I am thankful that Abigail is 20 lbs., strong, & healthy! Abigail has caught up and exceeded developmentally!
Abigail has been referred to another doctor who will preform the procedure.  We are hoping to take care of this sometime in January!  First, Abigail will need an echocardiogram, which requires sedation.  The PDA is closed by a cardiac catheterization procedure!  This is an out patient procedure, it's not really even considered surgery! A catheter is placed in a large blood vessel in the upper thigh (groin) and guided to the heart.  A small metal coil or other blocking device is passed up through the catheter and placed in the ductus arteriosus to block blood flow through the vessel.  Abigail will only have to stay in the hospital for one night just for observation.  Abigail will come home with antibiotics to prevent infection and have a few follow-up appointments with the cardiologist.  The good news is once the PDA is closed, Abigail will be just fine!  No more trips to the cardiologist and no more pending surgeries! So, I'm looking at this just like the tubes- we do the surgery and we move on!

"It's Christmas Time!"

Well, we just finished remodeling our second investment property!  This house was a foreclosure on our street and we got it for a better price, but the house needed lots of work!  We now have it up on the MLS for lease, so hopefully we'll get the house leased quickly!  I'm so blessed to have a husband who works so hard to provide for his family and to ensure that I'm able stay at home with Abigail!
Abigail continues to learn new things everyday!  She is really picking up on everything you say!  She repeats new words all the time!  She says "I love you," check out the video from below!  It's a little fuzzy because James took the video from his cell phone.  It's so fun to watch her learn & grow!
This week is a big week for Abigail, we go back to the cardiologist on Friday!  For those of you who don't know, Abigail has a PDA (an artery outside her heart that remains open).  PDA's are very common in preemies due to the fact that this artery closes in full term babies at birth.  We were told that there was a possibility for the PDA to close on its own on its own.  Abigail wasn't having any complications from the PDA, so we took the wait & see approach.  We went against the advise of our pediatricican and one cardiologist.  We saw Abigail's cardiologist last Dec. and he didn't want to see her for one year.  He was pleased with how she was growing and the tests showed, the opening had gotten smaller.  So, we will find out on Friday whether or not the PDA has closed on its own.  If the PDA hasn't closed on its own, then Abigail will more than likely need surgery by the age of 2.  I'm omptimistic that everything is okay!  We know that Abigail's in God's hands and he will take care of her, just like he has since she was in the womb!  I'm more nervous about trying to keep her still for the echocardiogram, ultrasound, and x-ray!  So, I'll updated you next time on the outcome!
We put up our Christmas tree Friday night!  Abigail has been good about not touching the tree!

James & I went to Toys R' Us this week, just to look at the toys.  However,  James pointed out this little chair to Abigail and she would not leave without the chair!  We tried to put the chair back and distract her, but she went back to the chair.  Then, when we took the chair to head to the register to buy the chair, she threw a fit!  So, we put the chair in the shopping cart and put her on the chair, then Abigail was all smiles!  Yes, I know we are so bad!  Abigail is just a little spoiled!

"Give Thanks"

I've been trying to complete this post for several days now!  My pictures have been taking a very long time to upload to the blog for some reason!  Very annoying!  Oops, back to counting my blessings!  At least, I have a computer right?
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with our families!  James & I are blessed to have our parents live close by, so we are abe to see everyone on the holidays!  Although, it makes for a busy few days & eating lots of food!  This year, we had our Thanksgiving meal with James's parents on Wednesday!  Then on Thanksgiving day, we ate lunch with my family  at my parents house with all of my siblings and their kids!  I have a big family & it just keeps growing!  Then, it was off to Grandmother's house we go for dinner!
Kayla & Abigail love to be outside!

Abigail & her Cousins!  This pictures was almost impossible to take because the kids were wanting to play in the pool!

My family minus Honey & myself!  It's not easy trying to get a good picture of this many people!
