"My 30th Birthday!"

After dealing with a sick child all week, I was ready for some fun!  Abigail is feeling 100% better since getting some antibiotics!  Thank God for medicine!!  My birthday celebration began Thursday night when I went to the Proverbs 31 Ministries Girls Night Out at Champion Forest Baptist Church!  James actually bought me the tickets for Christmas!  He bought me 6 tickets, so I was able to invite 5 friends to go with me!  The speakers included Lysa Terkeurst, Renee Swope, music by Ayiesha Woods, and Kate Gosselin from Jon & Kate Plus Eight on TLC!  All of the speakers were phenomenal!!  I invited my sister, my college room mate & dear friend Caryn, my dear friend Kimberly, and Amber & Jenifer who are dear friends and in the same playgroup with me!  We all had a wonderful evening and were very thankful that I have such an awesome husband for buying the tickets!!  Kate Gosselin was signing autographs afterwards, but the line was so long that it was literally out the door!  Crazy, huh?  It was already 10:30 pm, so we settled for taking some up close pictures of Kate Gosselin signing her books!  I know that's kind of silly, but we were all so excited just to see her in person!  She is a Christian woman and it's awesome the way the Lord is using her & her family to bring glory to him.  Kate Gosselin has written a book and in the book she talks candidly about her relationship with the Lord and relying on him for strength in her daily life!  She quotes scripture after scripture in her book, it's just amazing to think about how many people may be buying the book just because they are fans of the show and are getting witnessed to through the book!
My actual birthday was on Saturday, so James only went to the farm for the morning instead of the whole day!  James's parents took us to lunch and his mom had bought a cake!  Abigail was a big fan of the chocolate cake! What girl doesn't love chocolate?  Then, Saturday night my parents babysat while James & I went to Kirby's for dinner!  Kirby's is where we had our first date, which was a double date arranged by my parents and a friend as a birthday surprise for me!  James & I love going to Kirby's because the food is wonderful, but also because it's a sentimental place for us!  James bought me a flip camera for my birthday, so I'm excited about getting some cute video clips of Abigail!  Last night, I celebrated my birthday with my family!
I had wonderful birthday and I'm so blessed to have such an awesome family & friends!  It still seems weird that I'm actually 30, it just doesn't seem right!  Age is only a number and doesn't matter at all, but seriously where does the time go?  It seemed like time went by so slow when I was in college and counting the days down until the break in between semesters or waiting to find my husband or waiting to become a Mommy and now time just flies by!  Birthdays remind me how blessed I am and to enjoy each day and every moment and to live life to the fullest!

James & I before we went to Kirby's!

Abigail really enjoyed the chocolate cake!

More pics of Kate Gosselin, I'm not a stalker fan I promise!

"Surgey Post Poned!"

Abigail has continued to have fever off and on all week!  Last night, her fever was 102 and it took over and hour and a lukewarm bath before her fever started breaking!  Abigail still did not have any other symptoms that we could see!  We finally put Abigail to bed at 10 pm last night and then she woke up crying at 12:30 am!  It took over an hour for me to get her to calm down and go back to sleep, it was obvious something was causing her pain!

So, once again this morning, I was back at the doctors' office with Abigail!  It seems like the pediatrician's office gets a lot of our money that's for sure!  The doctor examined Abigail and noticed her throat was red and a little pussy.  Therefore, she ordered more bloodwork and a throat swab!  The tests came back negative for mono and strep!  We won't get the throat culture back until Monday!  However, the doctor wanted to go ahead and treat Abigail for tonsilitis!  Thank goodness, we got an antibiotic!!
As soon as I got home I had to make a phone call to the surgeon's nurse to let them know Abigail was sick!  After she talked with the surgeon, he felt it was best to post pone the surgery until Abigail was well!  Abigail's surgery has been moved to February 18th!  The good news is Abigail is, Abigail's the first surgery that day, so we won't have to worry about her being upset because we can't feed her breakfast!
Please pray that Abigail will start feeling better and that she will stay well for the surgery!  I know that this is all in God's hands!  It's just hard being a parent and feeling helpless when your little one doesn't feel good!!

"Abigail is sick again!"

Monday afternoon when Abigail woke up from her nap, I noticed she felt warm.  So, I took her temperature and it was 102.8!  Are you kidding me, we are a week away from her surgery and she's sick?  I called the pediatrician's office and of course could not get an appointment until Tuesday morning.  However, Monday night Abigail was playing and acting like she was feeling great!  So, I started feeling like I was over reacting and taking her to the doctor for no reason.

However, Tuesday morning, Abigail woke up with a 102 temp again!  I guess I didn't over react after all!  Abigail once again began crying as soon as she was put on the scale and cried while they took her temp on her arm!  Then, as soon as we were back in the room waiting for the doctor, Abigail fell asleep in my arms!  I knew Abigail did not feel well because she NEVER lets me hold her until she falls asleep!  When the doctor finally came in and examined Abigail, she couldn't find anything wrong with her!  Due to the fact that Abigail had fever of an unknown origin, that meant she would have to have blood work, a nose swab for the flu, and a urine sample.  So, the nurse came in and put a bag on her to collect some urine.  Abigail was NOT HAPPY!  Then, the another nurse came in and took the nose swab and pricked her finger to get a blood sample.  Abigail had cried so hard, that she fell asleep on me again!  I called James and had him come to the doctor's office because I knew they were going to have to put a catheter in to get some urine.  Abigail was so happy to see her Daddy, she just perked right up!  We waited for over an hour for Abigail to pee!  We tried getting her to drink as much water as possible and turn on the sink in the room, but nothing was working.  So, they had to put a catheter in in order to take a urine sample.  Abigail screamed her guts out, but at least it was quick!  She told the nurses, "all done," when they were finished!  After all that, the doctor just said Abigail probably had some type of virus and her fever shoud break in a day or so!  The doctor said to bring Abigail back on Thurs. if she still had a fever.  Of course as soon as we got home Abigail had a wet diaper that probably weighed 3 pounds, I'm not kidding!  Go figure....
Hopefully Abigail will get over this bug quick because otherwise we will have to post pone her surgery!

"Always something..."

It seems like everyday Abigail is learning and doing something new these days.  This week she decided to start carrying around this pink purse.  She takes the purse everywhere with her, even to bed!  It's very cute because she puts the purse on her arm and says, "Bye Bye!"  It makes you wonder where does she think she's going?  Abigail loves music and watches what we call the children singing video over and over again!  The cool thing is now she's trying to sing some of the songs!  Another big thing Abigail has learned is how to take her shirt off!  She tried to take her pants off too, but they had a button so she was unsuccessful!  I put the shirt back on and off it came again!  Oh my, what to do now!

"Sunday Afternoon"

I'm not sure who is enjoying this more, Daddy or Abigail!  Daddy was suppose to be putting Abigail in her crib for a nap.  I was on the phone with a friend and this is what I found when I got off the phone!  I thought it was too cute, so I had to take a pic!

"Pump It Up"

Abigail was invited to her 1st birthday party at Pump It Up.  Last Saturday, Abigail and I attended a double birthday party for her playgroup friends Harris & Julian.  The boys were celebrating their 2nd birthdays!  Due to the fact that the kids were all 2 and under, the parents needed to participate in the playtime!  This was my first time inside Pump It Up and I was quite amazed!  For those of you who have never been, they have several rooms with about 4 large inflatable bouncy toys.  I'm not sure how else to explain what Pump It Up is, so check out the website for more informtaion.  In the room we were in, there was a regular bouncy, a maze, a bouncy with boxing gloves and wrestling toys, and a slide.  The slide had stairs, however, really you end up pulling yourself up to the top.  This task was quite difficult with a 20 pound child in one arm.  Abigail had a blast!  She would just giggle when she was bounced or if she fell because she'd bounce!  I had a good time watching her, but I was totally worn out!

"Cadiologist Update"

Today was a long day at the doctor's office in the medical center.  We left our house at 9 am this morning and didn't get home until around 4 pm!  Crazy, huh?  It's a good thing we left our house early because the traffic was horrible!  Abigail's appointment was at 10 am and she wasn't taken back for the echocardiogram until about 11:30 am.  So, naturally she started to get fussy because she was hungry and we couldn't give her anything.  The ultrasound tech wanted to see if Abigail would let him do the ultrasound without having to sedate her, but there was no way!  Abigail started crying as soon as we laid her on the bed!  After the nurse gave Abigail the medicine to sedate her, it took about 20 minutes before she was sound asleep!  The doctor came in and took a look at the echo and said he would talk with us when we were in a "regular" room.  So, meanwhile James & I are waiting in a room with a child who is awake and hungry!  Abigail was NOT HAPPY!  She wanted to walk, but kept falling because she was still a little drugged.  She would not drink her water or pedialyte, so finally I started feeding her some cheerios!  Abigail calmed down a little bit, but she really wanted some milk and of course I didn't have any to give her!  Finally, after the doctor returned from his lunch break I'm sure, he came in to talk with us about the PDA.  Abigail's PDA is very small, which is a good thing because that means the risks for the procedure are even less!  Praise God!!  The procedure to close the PDA will take about 3 hours and is an out patient surgery!  Abigail will get to come home the same day!  Again, Praise God!!  We have scheduled the procedure for January 26th!  We have peace of mind that this needs to be done and we feel confident with the doctor who will be doing the procedure!  The doctor has two year old son and said, "if it were my child, i'd have the PDA closed."  I could tell the doctor was not just saying that to make us feel better either, he was being genuine.  James & I both decided we don't want this PDA to be an issue for Abigail the rest of her life, so this needs to be done!

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers!

"Happy New Year!"

We decided to stay home this year for New Year's Eve instead of going to my family's ranch with my family.  The ranch is only a 3 bedroom 2 bath house, so that's just a little too small for four families!  That's not fun- that's CHAOS!  Instead, James & I took Abigail to Chuck-E-Cheese for New Year's Eve just to do something fun!  Of course, Abigail is too little for almost everything there, but she did have fun in the toddler area.  She even managed to climb up the steps and go down the slide all by herself!  Such a big girl!  New Year's Day, we went to Grandma & Grandpa's farm for the day and stopped by our farm on the way home to tag some new calves.
All the Christmas decorations have been taken down and put away.  I look forward to what this new year will bring!  We go to the cardiologist Tues. for the echocardiogram and to discuss Abigail's surgery.  I'll post an update after the appointment.
