"Abigail's Surgery!"

Abigail's surgery to close her PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) was on Wednesday, February 18th!  The surgery was done at Memorial Herman in the medical center.  We had to arrive at the hospital at 5:30 am the morning of the surgery.  Since it was a children's hospital, there was a playroom in the pre-op room with all kinds of toys for Abigail.  Abigail was given a sedative, which the nurse called "happy juice."  The medicine made Abigail so hyper, she was chasing a little boy in circles while tripping over her feet because she could hardly walk due to the medication.  James & I were able to escort Abigail all the way to the operating room where we had to hand our baby girl over to the nurse.  I think handing over your child to a complete stranger has to be the most difficult part of this whole process!
We were given a phone number to the operating room that we could call at any time to get an update.  The surgeon came out to talk with James & I as soon as he finished the procedure to let us know that everything went well!  The artery was closed with a small coil device.  James & I were away from Abigail for about 4 hours, but thankfully the time went by rather quickly.  As soon as we were able to see Abigail in the recovery room, she was trying to sit up.  Abigail had a leg brace on to keep her right knee from bending and she had to lay down flat for 6 hours following the surgery.  Abigail was so agitated trying to take the nasal canula out of her nose and her iv out of her hand, so she was given a dose of morphine and she was out again!  Abigail was given tylenol with codeine when she woke up again.  She did vomit from the anthesia.
Abigail slept most of the day due to all the medication she was given and when she would wake up she was agitated.  Around 7 pm Abigail noticed a cookie sitting on the table and she started pointing at the cookie saying "cookie."  She ate a big cookie and lots of dry cherrios and she started to perk up a little bit.  We all tried to sleep as much as possible while you're at the hospital, but how can you really get any sleep when the nurses are coming in every two hours to check your vitals!
Around 1 am, the nurse woke Abigail up trying to check her pulse on her feet and Abigail was wide awake!  We gave Abigail a popsicle because she wouldn't drink anything and she was ready to go!  So, we were walking the halls in the middle of the night!  At 5am the next morning, the nurse came in to take us downstairs for Abigail's chect x-ray!  Abigail was back to her happy self and playing like nothing happened!  She was walking the halls entertaining all the nurses and played in the playroom for a little bit!
As soon as Abigail had her chest x-ray, EKG, and echocardiogram and the doctor reviewed the results we were discharged from the hospital.  We were on our way home by 11 am!  We were all so happy to be home and to be able to sleep in our own beds!  Oh, and to actually get some sleep without nurses coming in all hours of the night!
Thank you all for your prayers and support!!  God is good!!  Here are a few pics from the hospital taken with James's blackberry:

I wanted to read over Abigail's discharge summary from the hospital to remind myself how truly blessed I am to have my healthy little girl!!  Abigail was blue and not breathing when the doctor pulled her out of my tummy, but God has big plans for my little girl!  I am in awe looking back at how the Lord has blessed us and taken care of Abigail!
I can only imagine what wonderful things that the Lord has in store for my little girl!!

"Happy Valentine's Day!"

Abigail had to make the rounds on Valentine's Day to deliver all of her Valentines!  First, we went to Mimi & Honey's house!  Mimi & Honey gave Abigail a stuffed pink monkey, but Abigail was scared of the monkey!  Abigail ate some chocolate cake, thanks to Aunt Sandra.  Next, we went to see "Mama" (my grandmother) at the Assisted Living.  Mama was so excited to have visitors and to get a Valentine!  Then, we were off to Grandma & Grandpa's house where Daddy was waiting for us!  Grandma & Grandpa gave Abigail a book and a little box of chocolate!  Abigail had a great time dancing to Grandpa's card that played music and of course, ate some chocolate!  James, Abigail, & I went to dinner as a family to celebrate Valentine's Day at Pallota's an Italian restraunt!  We had to wait 3o minutes to get a table even going at 5:15 pm, the restraunt was very busy!  James & I don't do gifts for Valentine's Day, but we do exchange cards and I get flowers!  It's funny because we both seperately bought Abigail pink teddy bears!  James bought Abigail a little tulip plant, which is my favorite flower!  I also bought Abigail some books!  We had a wonderful Valentine's Day and hope you did too!  Now, it's time to stop eating chocolate and lay off the sugar for a while!!

"Keeping the Faith!"

My heart is breaking for so many people around me!!  I have friends losing loved ones to cancer, friends who's loved ones are fighting cancer, friends who have lost their jobs, and friends who are dealing with depression!!  I am reminded of the state of our economy every time I turn on the t.v. or get on, but it's really starting to hit home!  My dad was laid off in October and just now found another job!
James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds. Because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
This scripture has been on my heart all week because it's during the difficult times that we really grow in our faith!  Although, during those difficult times you can become numb or just simply too weak and that's when you need to be carried by your brothers & sisters in Christ!  Please join me in praying for all those who are going through difficult trials in their lives!  Take the time to let those know that you care and that you are praying for them!

I can not blog with out of course posting some pics of Abigail!  So, to help brighten your day, here are some cute pics of my little sunshine!
Abigail playing outside!

Abigail sporting her sunglasses!  Pushing the glasses on top of the head is a new thing, but it's cute!

Abigail reading her "Thomas the Train" book, and yes still wearing her sunglasses!

Abigail went to work with Daddy one day last week, so I could rest and get over a sinus infection!  I NEVER put Abigail in blue because I think it's boyish, but she had to wear her shirt just like Daddy!

"Busy Bee!"

Abigail was a busy girl last week!  First, she found her sunglasses in her closet while I was hanging up her clothes and she has been wearing them ever since!  It's so cute because sometimes she puts them on upside down!  The sunglasses go with her everywhere just like her pink purse!  Thursday afternoon, we met my sister and nephew at the Woodlands mall so the kids could play at the Children's Musuem!  Abigail had a blast running around everywhere looking at everything and playing with all the cool toys!  I think her favorite part was playing in the big sand box!  Thursday night, Abigail played outside while we waited for Grandma & Grandpa to pick us up to go out to dinner!  Saturday, Abigail & I went to visit my Grandmother for the day!  I'm very close to my Grandmother and want to make sure that Abigail gets to spend as much time with her as possible!  Sunday, we went to my friend Julie's new house for the Super Bowl party with our playgroup friends!  Julie rented a bouncy house for the kids and Abigail had a ball bouncing in the house!  Abigail spotted the cows next door, so she had Daddy take her to see them!  She had lots of fun playing in Grace's playroom!
Abigail continues to learn new things everyday!  She is learning to count and repeats "one" "two!"  She's working on her ABC's too, and can repeat "ABCD!"  Abigail is learning to say "Jesus" and says "Amen" at the end of a prayer!  Today she sneezed and said "bless you!"  I thought I was hearing things, but thought it was so cute!  Abigail is such a happy little girl and it always smiling and laughing!  Its so fun to watch her learn and grow!
