Abigail requested a "Bethany Hamilton" party for her birthday. In case you don't know who Bethany Hamilton is, she is the girl the movie Soul Surfer is about. Bethany is a professional surfer who had her arm bitten off by a shark. Abigail loves the movie & is obsessed with Bethany Hamilton. Abigail has a barbie that she had James tear the arm off of so she could be like Bethany. So, I decided we'd do a surfer girl/Luau theme for her party. Again, I ordered some of the decorations off Etsy & got some ideas from Pinterest. Abigail picked out the plates & napkins. She asked for a surf board pinata and thankfully I was able to order one from Amazon. I kept the food simple & served pretty much the same thing that I served at Jacob's party except I also made peanut butter & jelly sandwiches in the shapes of starfish & octopus. My friend Dawn made Abigail's cake per Abigail's request & it was a cake with a girl surfing. When my friend Dawn showed up with the cake, I called Abigail over to look at the cake & the first thing out of her mouth was, "but she has two arms, Bethany only has one!" I was so embarrassed, even though it was hilarious. My friend Dawn said, "well, I can fix that right now." So, she had Abigail tell her which arm to remove & she removed the arm. LOL! I had another friend make surf board cookies for party favors & they turned out so good. She did several different colors & designs all by hand. Abigail wanted to play outside, so we set up some small swimming pools & a slip & slide for the kids. My backyard quickly turned into a big mud pit, so the cake & presents were moved outside. We invited family & close friends & the girls from Abigail's class at school. We had a great turn out & everyone had a great time. Abigail is blessed to have such wonderful family & friends.
*Side Note: Having birthday parties for your kiddos a month apart is hard work! This Mama was worn out & so was Daddy's pocket book!" LOL! I'm thankful the parties are over until next year! At least, I have one child who tells me exactly what she wants! LOL!
On June 22nd, Abigail turned 5 years old! Five just seems so old to me, where did the toddler & preschool years go? It's hard to remember how little Abigail was the day she was born & even pictures don't really show her true size. Abigail is a precious little girl. She loves playing with her dolls, dancing, singing, playing with friends, loves to play outside, pretends she's shy at times & then she won't stop talking, loves her Daddy, is a wonderful big sister. Ever since visiting Seaworld during Spring Break, Abigail has been all about dolphins & whales, & the ocean. Abigail requested a special breakfast for her birthday, so she got a waffle with chocolate syrup on it. We had lunch at Chick-fil-a with Mimi & Honey and two of her cousins. Then, we went to Grandma & Papa's to open presents. Abigail has been waiting for her "Abigail American Girl Doll" from Grandma. It's actually a Madame Alexandar Doll that Grandma bought way before James & I were dating at a book fair & her name was Abigail. Abigail was so excited about her new doll & she has so much fun dressing her up in different clothes. James & I took Abigail to the Downtown Aquarium for dinner & fun to celebrate her special day. Abigail said, "This was the best day ever!" We are so thankful for the precious gift God gave us 5 years ago. God is so faithful & good! We look forward to watching you grow & learn each new year! Mommy & Daddy love you baby girl!

These pictures uploaded in the wrong order, oops! Oh well! This year Abigail took a Ballet & Tap combination class at Boni's. Half the class they did ballet & the other half tap. Abigail did not care for tap, I'm not sure why. However, she still loves dance. For her recital they did a tap dance to the "Yellow Submarine." Abigail did a great job! She was so excited about doing her dance on the big stage & everyone coming to see her perform! Here is Abigail & all of her fans:
Abigail with cousin Kayla, Uncle Ricky & his girlfriend Kimmi, & Jacob
Failed attempt at a family pic
Mimi & Honey
Grandma & Papa
Daddy's little girl
I think this part of the dance routine is what made Abigail dislike tap because she didn't like being pulled in the circle. She's one of the smallest girls in the class, so I don't blame her.
Backstage before the dance, I think she was a little nervous

Abigail has a summer birthday so she doesn't typically get to celebrate with friends at school. However, this year her teacher let her celebrate her birthday before the end of the year. So, Abigail requested a cookie cake with surf boards as her treat to take to school to share with friends. I picked up Chick-fil-A for lunch & took lunch to my baby girl. It was so much fun to make her feel special & celebrate her birthday with her classmates.
The last day of school was the annual "Splash Day" at Sonkids. Last year, I was in the hospital recovering from a c-section. Abigail had so much fun going down the water slide & playing with friends. I enjoyed watching her have fun with friends. I was proud of myself because I stepped out of my comfort zone & chatted with the other moms & exchanged phone numbers so we could plan play dates over the summer. Abigail had another great year at Sonkids! We love the school & the staff are wonderful! Abigail will be attending private Kindergarten at Sonkids next year as a transition. We can't wait to see what next year brings!

Jacob's 1st birthday was a farm theme. I ordered some of the decorations off Etsy & got some of my inspiration & ideas from Pinterest. I have so much fun planning parties & I enjoy entertaining, but I have yet to figure out how to do this without stressing myself out. We had the party at our house, which motivated us to get some things done around the house that we had been putting off since we moved in last summer. We just invited family & close friends to keep it simple. My friend Dawn made an awesome birthday cake for Jacob & the hay bales on the cake were his "smash cakes." We had another friend make the tractor cookies for party favors. Jacob was too young to understand that it was his birthday, but he enjoyed his cake. Jacob got all kinds of new toys, books, & clothes for his birthday. We are so blessed with wonderful family & friends who love on our precious baby boy.
